With the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Lake Okeechobee to the west, Martin County is truly a playground in Paradise.

If enjoying the outdoors and exciting activities rank high on your list of things to do, then Martin County is the place for you; offering a vast array of sports, beaches and parks, golf courses, water and equestrian activities.

Natural splendors abound in Martin County. Water activities include boating, snorkeling and diving, surfing, fishing and walking the beach. From hitting the high seas in your own boat to taking a sailing lesson or joining a crew for a day on a fishing charter, there is a water sport for every level of desired activity. For the landlubbers, Martin County offers miles of trails and nature parks for hiking, picnicking or just enjoying the fresh air.

Enjoy Our Good Nature

It's easy to get back to nature at the numerous environmentally protected areas, including Dupuis and Allapattah Flats Wildlife Management areas and Barley Barber Swamp. DuPuis Management Area is a 21,875 acre protected area in southwestern Martin County. Recreational opportunities include hunting, horseback riding, cycling, camping, hiking, and fishing. Allapattah Flats anchors 20,945 acres of marshes and slash pine flatwoods. Recreational opportunities include hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, primitive camping, hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing. The Barley Barber Swamp, once a vast Bald Cypress forest and waterway in the Greater Everglades watershed, is a 450-acre parcel of land surrounded by FPL’s Martin County power plant. The swamp is located just over a mile east of Lake Okeechobee and due west of Indiantown, Florida. Tours are available by reservation only at 772-597-3777

Equestrian

Martin County is more than the "Sailfish Capital" of the World. It is home to a growing group of equestrians who appreciate the low density and animal friendly atmosphere. In Western Martin County you will find a diverse group of equestrian disciplines, including dressage, showjumping, polo, thoroughbred racing, western pleasure and more. There are well run boarding facilities which offer lessons which teach the correct footing for each specific discipline, as well as privately owned farms which offer boarding. Further west in Indiantown, you can visit Payson Park, the winter training ground for world champion race horses. If you prefer to stay on the east coast, you can actually ride horseback on the beach, just north of Martin County.

Family Fun

For fun times with friends and family, Martin County features two bowling alleys, billiards clubs, putt putt golf, arcades, two movie complexes and much more. 76 Golf World in Stuart features two 18-hole miniature golf courses, batting cages, bounce houses, bumper boats, go-carts, trampoline basketball game, a climbing attraction and driving range. Inside you will enjoy a fun-filled arcade, snack bar and party room. Superplay USA is located in Port St. Lucie, featuring state of the art bowling lanes, indoor miniature golf, laser tag, outdoor batting cages and a giant arcade.

Spectator Sports

If you would rather watch than participate, various spectator sports are available throughout the county and can be enjoyed all year long. If baseball is your game, you can get your fill at both Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter and First Data Field in Port St. Lucie. The Roger Dean stadium complex is the spring training home to the St. Louis Cardinals and Florida Marlins, their Class A-Advanced affiliates Palm Beach Cardinals and Jupiter Hammerheads. First Data Field is the spring training facility for the New York Mets and home to the St. Lucie Mets minor league team.

Martin County is home to the Babe Ruth World Series, which takes place during the summer, and hosts more than 15,000 players worldwide competing for the title of Babe Ruth World Series Champion.

If a good old fashioned rodeo is your thing, don’t miss the annual Indiantown Rodeo, which takes place in October. 

Is Polo your cup of tea? Palm City Polo Club offers the opportunity to watch professional polo tournaments during the months of November through May.
