In these troublesome times, it's very difficult for business owners and/or managers, to know who to believe or who they can trust. Many feel they are on a roller coaster, with sales down, profits down, taxes going up, insurance costs up and layoffs up. Others feel like they are on a merry-go-round, going around in circles trying to drum up profitable business, jumping through hoops to keep up with government regulations. Even more hoops if they are looking for a lender that will even sit down and talk. At the same time, attempting to convince employees to try a little harder and explaining to them why some may have their hours cut or maybe even be without work for a while.

Businesses are suffering along with the economy, but Chamber membership is more important, particularly now. According to a recent study, people who were told that a particular business was a member of a local chamber were 44% more likely to rate it favorably than study respondents who were not told of the affiliation. Respondents were also 63% more likely to purchase from a Chamber member. The study also showed that people think more favorably about a company's products, services and reputation when they are told that the business is affiliated with a chamber. This study was done by Schapira who were commissioned by the ACCE. Another study shows that 95% of the businesses voted as The Best Place To Work are Chamber members.

Recently the U.S. Chamber of Commerce issued the 2009 State of the American Business report. To no one's surprise they remind us that these are difficult and troubling times for millions of American businesses, workers, and families. The report also reminds us that we're in a recession, credit remains tight, jobs are scarce, and confidence is low. There are more difficult months ahead.

Where Have All The Leaders Gone??
The title of Lee Iacocca's new book. I have always admired Lee Iacocca for his courage and ability to borrow millions of dollars from the government, but mostly for his integrity in paying it back after rescuing Chrysler Corporation from its "death throes." Here are a few comments that he makes. He admits to being a sucker for alliteration and the big "C" when he speaks of leaders, the curious, creative communicators.

For the past 30 years, Mary DeLater of Entertainment Consultants has been a part of the entertainment and concert community of South Florida. From operating a Musicians Referral Service in Fort Lauderdale to working with a major concert promoter in West Palm Beach it was a natural progression for her to open her own Agency on the Treasure Coast in 1986 and to work on a client to client basis booking entertainment.
